Volunteer
Alberta's pro bono clinics and organizations are on the front lines of improving access to justice in our province. Volunteers are needed to support the work of these organizations and provide access to legal services to those in need.
Calgary Legal Guidance
For 48 years, Calgary Legal Guidance has been running free legal advice clinics to low-income individuals. Volunteer lawyers provide their time and knowledge to advise, inform and direct people through the legal system. During the pandemic and the closure of in-person legal advice clinics, volunteers have been assisting by phone and online meetings. Demand for service is increasing and more lawyers are needed.
Central Alberta Community Legal Clinic
The Central Alberta Community Legal Clinic is located in Red Deer, and provides services throughout Alberta, including in Medicine Hat, Lloydminster, Fort McMurray and across Central Alberta.
Edmonton Community Legal Centre
The Edmonton Community Legal Centre urgently needs volunteer lawyers and articling students to provide free legal advice to low-income clients. ECLC staff conduct an extensive client interview in advance of the client's meeting with the volunteer lawyer, and these notes and the client's legal documents are provided to the volunteer lawyer, so that the appointment can focus on legal advice. Legal advice can be provided by telephone from your home or office, or by phone or in-person from ECLC's downtown office with extensive COVID safety measures.
Pro Bono Law Alberta
Pro Bono Law Alberta is partnering with Calgary Legal Guidance and the Public Interest Law Clinic at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law to recruit volunteers for the new Alberta Debtor Support Project.
